The Minki Story
I grew up with a mom that would oil my hair EVERY Sunday like clockwork. Eventually, though, kids in grade school asked what was in my hair and that it was smelly. As a girl who was shy enough as it was, the last thing I needed was more attention on me for my 'smelly' hair.
Nevertheless, I kept on oiling. Having a mom who worked all the time meant that our hair oiling sessions were sacred— and I didn't want to lose that time with her, even if it meant snarky remarks here and there from others.
Eventually, though, I asked her to stop when I got to high school. I traded my hair oil for heat protectant, and I noticed just within a few weeks that my hair IMMEDIATELY got thinner, more dry, and felt like… hay. It also just stopped growing?
During COVID, hair oiling became a trend on social media. I would see girls putting in a few drops of a hair oil product in, and rub it in for a second or two into their scalp, then do a slick back. This physically PAINED me to see, because I knew it was doing more harm than good.
But, since it was cool again and my hair had nothing to lose, I purchased a few of these hair oil products— but BOY were they expensive! $70 CAD for maybe 100mL of product?
As I started to use these hair oils, I noticed no changes. Furthermore, I oiled my hair for the massage aspect of it all! Hair oiling was my self care time, and the quantity these oils came in were simply not enough for the Sunday hair oil massages I grew up loving.
At my wit's end, I decided to go back to Indian products— and my hair started growing a little? Curious, though, I started to look into the ingredients and what I was actually putting in my hair. I was surprised to find our they were absolutely atrocious.
Although these products were at least affordable, I was seeing that the 'amla oils' didn't even have real amla in them.
At this point I was puzzled. What was going on? Surely it couldn't be hard to find a hair oil that was:
1) Affordable,
2) Clean,
3) Larger than the size of my finger in terms of bottle size?
My mom had been making her own hair oil, a family recipe, which I finally decided to go back to. This oil had natural, Ayurvedic ingredients in it, like amla, vertiver root, fenugreek, and more.
In just a few weeks, I noticed immediate changes. My hair was softer, shinier, and growing like no one else’s business. For the first time in my life, I had hair down to my hips!
I knew we were onto something, and knew that girls deserved to have this product. So, I started Minki Hair Oil! Minki is affordable, has natural ingredients, and uses a family recipe— over everything, this stuff works.
Each bottle has more quantity in it, for less, because you deserve a working hair oil that doesn't break the bank. Plus free, custom Minki stickers with every purchase. So, what are you waiting for?
